NaLata creates an open-air museum in the Pinheiros region and in Parque Villa-Lobos


The Festival presents the works of 14 national and international artists, including JonOne, the Spanish Okuda and the Brazilians Dai, MULAMBÖ and Renato Custodio

The 4th edition of NaLata Festival takes place until November 4, in Sao Paulo, with the participation of 14 artists, who will exhibit their works on pediments, murals, containers and artistic installations, in the regions of Pinheiros, Vila Madalena and Parque Villa-Lobos.

“We combine the work of new and established artists in favor of art, which is a powerful tool of resistance, and establish our commitment to the city of São Paulo so that art is for all. The region has become an important center and of reference around the world”, he comments Luan Cardosoartistic curator at NaLata.




The Spanish painter and sculptor is part of the group of international guests of this edition Okuda he is known for mixing color and geometry with organic shapes to create evocative symbolism. He also creates works on canvas, incorporating elements of embroidery and collage. For Okuda, what makes street work most special is discovering new places, transforming them with paintings and sculptures, and being inspired by the people who live there.



Vhils.

The Portuguese painter and muralist VhilsAlso taking part in the festival is , considered one of the most innovative artists of his generation, with his poetic and moving portraits engraved on the walls. In his work he develops a unique visual language based on the removal of the surface layers of walls and other supports, using materials that the city rejects and unconventional techniques. Vhils reflects on the impact of urbanity, development and global uniformity on landscapes and people’s identities. In practice he destroys to create.



JonOne.

French and self-taught Jon One features brush and dripping techniques in another of his productions, which deviate from the traditional visual codes of the graffiti movement. His passion for street art began in his youth, when he saw graffiti adorning the subway cars and streets of New York City.



AS.

Representing Brazil is the artist from Sorocaba AS, with the mural in acrylic paint First Time on the Beach, which represents the testimony of his first contact with the beach, at the age of 12. “One of the first paintings I produced, inspired by the accounts of adolescent diaries, shows the girl hidden under the umbrella in a colorful reinterpretation, enhancing the traits of color, body, self-esteem and the discovery of darkness in adult life It is the representation of the search for freedom in the simple things of being in the world – what one is”, explains Dai.



Mulambo.

Carioca is also part of the festival program as a guest Mulambo, with the opera Tudo Nosso. In his works he uses symbols and signs of popular culture and tries to re-establish the narratives surrounding popular events. “Two children each hold half of a palm leaf. A boy and a girl will appear as symbols of resistance and celebration of the cultural richness of the outskirts of Brazil and each will carry in their hands half of a whole that belongs to the people. It’s all ours”, explains Mulambö.



Renato Custodio.

With a coherent path focused on capturing skateboarding maneuvers performed in urban contexts, the São Paulo native and editorial photographer Renato Custodio occupies Largo da Batata with a temporary skateable work, presented by the Tiger brand, which will serve as a support for the public to perform their own tricks.

This year the big news is the opening of the national selection for artists interested in participating in NaLata. Among the names chosen are visual artist and muralist Rafael Highraffmuralist and painter Carla Duncan and the designer, muralist and visual artist CRISPA, to paint gables. The street murals will be created by the muralist, urban art curator and designer FLIPby the visual artist MARIÊ and the illustrator and designer Amanda Lobos.

NaLata House



NaLata 2022 - Filipe Grimaldi.

Located in Rua Fernão Dias, in Pinheiros, Casa NaLata is a space of coexistence and exchange, where all this artistic movement will take place. With free programming, the House will host DJ shows and workshops, every Friday and Saturday from 2pm to 11pm and on Sundays from 2pm to 6pm, from 20 October to 4 November.
