Pernambucano names his son after Liverpool’s idol: ‘There is Salah in the EP’

José Lithierry spoke about his inspiration to baptize his son, born in Caruaru (PE), and the agreement he made with his wife to make his wish come true

How far would you go for your favorite team? A Brazilian from Pernambuco, passionate about English Liverpool, has decided to pay homage to one of his idols, the striker Mohammed Salah, on behalf of his son. The love for the Reds led José Lithierry to name the newborn Gael Salah Souza do Nascimento.

The little one was born in Caruaru (PE) on October 27, weighs 3.62 kg and 50 cm, and already bears the name of the Egyptian star, Lithierry said in an interview with ESPN. The tribute, explains the father, is the result of his passion for the English club and for the player he considers ‘the greatest of the squad of the last 10 years’: “Now there is Salah at Pernambuco”, he joked.

Gael Salah’s father says he started following Liverpool in 2005, in the victory over Milan and winning the Champions League that year, in the episode that became known as the ‘Miracle of Istanbul’, when the English defeated the Italians and won on penalties.

According to Lithierry, he still had to “negotiate” with his wife, Priscylla Souza, to pay his respects. She agreed, she says, but she set a condition for her husband’s wish to come true.

What my wife didn’t accept was giving me both of his names, because I really wanted to call him Roberto Salah, while also paying homage to Bobby Firmino. But she said I would only be entitled to one, so Salah stayed,” she explained.

In the Premier League, Liverpool are in third place, with 24 points, after the 1-1 draw against Luton Town last Sunday, on 5. Rossi we will return to the field in the championship next Sunday, the 12th, at home against Brentford, 9th in the table.
