The chef detailed the strategy he adopts and gave advice to followers interested in healthy eating
“Rita, how do you stay slim by preparing so many good things?” the followers of the chef, writer and host ask themselves Rita Lobo. The answer is complex and, as she indicates, requires dedication. But it’s worth it.
In a video published on Instagram on Monday (7), the chef recalls that over 50% of the Brazilian population is overweight or obese. The number shows that this is not an individual issue, but a collective one.
Citing data, Rita doesn’t elaborate on this point, but acknowledges that poor nutrition is a consequence of a mix of factors, including “economic, social and information issues.” In the video in question she focuses on what is her specialty: the food system.
“Prefers consumption of ultra-processed foods, which are that group of foods full of chemicals, additives – salt, sugar, fats. These are sliced bread from a bag, tomato sauce from a can, instant noodles, biscuits fillings, snack pack, frozen lasagna”, lists some examples.
The chef points out that as these foods have crept into the daily lives of Brazilians, they have also taken the place of foods produced without ultra-processed foods. But just as the problem is complex, the solution involves several fronts, involving economic and political sectors to improve social reality.
“There are many things that are not in our hands at the moment. But there are two that are”, Rita anticipates before listing what can be done on an individual level:
- differentiate “real food”, natural food, from ultra-processed foods;
- cooking, because food “does not sprout” on the table.
“That said, to those who ask me how I avoid gaining weight by eating lots of good food, I can answer like this: first, I don’t really eat ultra-processed foods. None. My conscience won’t let me, my taste buds don’t like it and my stomach is complaining.”
If you adopt this position, Rita believes that it is possible to eat everything, without overdoing it. «Now, without knowing how to cook, it is difficult to make good food choices. You don’t have the autonomy to prepare your own meals and most likely you don’t even know exactly what you’re eating, in addition to the risk of falling for all kinds of nutritional fads,” she assesses.
The chef herself teaches cooking, with several recipes available for free on her official website. Rita Lobo continues to champion “real food” on her shows on GNT.
