Wesley Murakami da Silva was convicted of grievous bodily harm by the Court of Justice of Goiás
Dr. Wesley Noryuki Murakami da Silva was sentenced by the Court of Justice of Goiás (TJ-GO) to serve a sentence of 9 years, 10 months and 10 days in prison, for the crime of grievous bodily harm, against nine victims. He is accused of causing deformities in patients who sought him for cosmetic procedures. The doctor can still appeal the sentence while he is free.
The decision was signed by judge Luciano Borges da Silva, of the VIII Criminal Court for crimes punished with solitary confinement and detention. The magistrate sentenced Wesley to serve his sentence in closed regime.
Murakami was accused of deforming the faces of nine patients, eight women and one man. Victims report seeking medical attention for facial matching procedures in 2013, 2017, and 2018.
Among the symptoms reported post-operatively were swelling and a lot of pain. One of the women said that after receiving the injections, she had lumps on her face that caused her a lot of pain, according to the process by which the Earth had access.
The same patient said Murakami gave her a “very aggressive” facial massage to try to reduce the swelling. The victim reported that the doctor did not request clinical tests before performing any surgery.
The attacks were proven through forensic examination. The Technical-Scientific Police of Goiás confirmed that there had been an “offense to the physical integrity” of the patients.
“The medical report presented by the victim attests to the physical deformities and the contract for the provision of services strengthens the causal link between the injuries and the defendant’s conduct”, reads the sentence, concerning one of the women treated by Murakami.
The judge says the doctor knew the procedures would have negative results and consequences. According to the judge, Murakami assumed the risk of harming patients while performing the procedures. “Act, therefore, with possible intent”, adds the magistrate.
“He carried out the procedures described in the complaint and by the victims, aware at all times of the negative outcomes, of the pain felt by the offended parties, of the inconveniences, embarrassments and deformities that affected them and, despite this, he continued to engage in harmful conduct, without worrying about the consequences”, reads the sentence.
The doctor’s defense could not be found to comment on the case. The space is open for demonstrations.
