Waldorf salad: a sweet and sour recipe to be enjoyed

Christmas is approaching and dinner needs delicious recipes to make the moment even more special. Besides the salpicão and chester, you can’t miss that fancy salad to complete the meal. Therefore, we recommend the traditional Waldorf salad.




With walnuts, celery and apple, the sweet and sour preparation has two possible origins. The salad is said to have been created by a French chef in the 20th century in honor of the Waldorf hotel in Paris. The second version says that the salad was an invention of an American chef in 1931 who was celebrating the opening of the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York.

Regardless of how the recipe was created, the Waldorf salad has become popular around the world and a symbol of Christmas Eve. To make it at home, use the ingredients and follow the instructions below:

Waldorf salad

Time: 30 minutes

Performance: 6 servings

Difficulty: easy

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup celery (celery), stringless and diced
  • 2 sour apples, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup very cold fresh cream
  • Salt to taste

Preparation method:

  1. Place the nuts, celery and apples in a bowl and set aside
  2. In the meantime, mix the mayonnaise, lemon juice, cream and salt
  3. Pour over the reserved ingredients and mix gently.
  4. Cover with cling film and refrigerate until ready to serve.
