James Bond has long been a household name. Did you know this is a real person?

It turned out that while writing books about Bond and in particular working on the character, Ian Fleming was looking for a sonorous name for his hero. And one day, he comes across a book by the ornithologist James Bond. The writer thought this name was very cool for Agent 007 and hoped there would be no problems.

The ornithologist wasn’t really concerned that his name was taken from a book hero, but Bond’s wife was furious. She wrote an angry letter to Fleming, accusing the writer of stealing her name.
Ian was not lost and in his reply letter he invited Bond to use his own name for any purpose. For example, he was not at all opposed to an ornithologist naming a “terrible new species of bird” after him.
To smooth over the conflict, Fleming also invited the Bond couple to visit him and during the party gave them one of the novels in which he wrote: “the real James Bond”.
