The dermatologist warns of the importance of care during the season
According to data from the National Cancer Institute (INCA), skin cancer is the most common type in Brazil, corresponding to 30% of malignant tumors registered each year. “The sun, through ultraviolet rays, leads to changes in cellular DNA, triggering cancer, which we call neoplasia.“, says Dr. José Roberto Fraga Filho, dermatologist, full member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology and Clinical Director of the Fraga Dermatology Institute.
It is not news to anyone that summer is the most harmful season for our skin. Favorite season for Brazilians, the end of the year is the ideal time for the beach, the pool and lots of sun, but all this fun can become a real nightmare without the necessary care.
Heat also leads to dehydration of the skin, making it drier and more prone to eczema and infections. According to Dr. Fraga, in addition to genetic problems, prolonged and repeated exposure to the sun and, obviously, without adequate protection, still remains the main factor in skin cancer.

Treatments vary depending on the stage and type of cancer and range from cauterization, acid applications, liquid nitrogen to surgery, which is much more frequent. We must also always be aware of the stains on our body:”There is a rule for suspecting moles, which is the ABCDE rule:
A- Asymmetry
B- Irregular edges
C- Different colors in the same point
D- Spot diameter greater than 0.6 cm
E- Evolution, whether the mole grows or not“, teaches the specialist.
To avoid future problems, the cure is simple. In addition to using sunscreen daily, even on cloudy and cold days, the best method is to avoid exposure during the times when ultraviolet rays are most intense, i.e. from 10:00 to 16:00.
