Green, gold tones, gingham prints and elves should predominate in this year’s decorations
Christmas is a traditional date in Brazil and around the world: it is customary to gather family, friends and loved ones to celebrate and decorate the environment with lights, put up a Christmas tree, prepare the space for dinner and exchange gifts. There are those who like to think about decorating at the beginning of December and there are those who invest at the last minute. Even so, it’s important to be aware of trends and what might work on the date.
The Celebra Show 2023 fair, held between May and June this year, had an entire space dedicated to Christmas, including workshops and conferences on how to increase sales during this period. The business consultant Luciana Locchievent curator and specialist in the home and decoration sector, lists 7 trends for this year, check them out!
Shades of green and gold
Contrary to red, present in Santa Clauses, tablecloths, napkins, table services, boots and other decorative and tableware objects, this year the scene is probably the winner green, in different tones. It represents hope, renewal and vitality and can be combined with golden to decorate shelves, tables, chests of drawers and shelves. “This is a trend that can already be observed in Asia and Europe; and now it will also arrive in Brazil”, comments the expert.
In addition to being present on Christmas trees, the traditional pine trees, shades of green can appear in soft toys, decorative baubles, fabric socks, garlands and ornaments. The gold is in the details, like napkin rings for the dining tables, shiny objects, signs, bows, star tips and more.
Light everywhere

This year too, an illuminated Christmas will not be an exaggeration. Lights are a trend, especially on Christmas trees. A new feature is the light strings with remote control, that is, it will be possible to turn the lighting on, off and change the frequency of the lighting remotely. Additionally, these items will also have the ability to make sounds and play music, all in the same Christmas item.
It is possible to use them in external areas of the environment, such as courtyards, balconies and gardens; or even for interiors: as a clear glass centrepiece, garland, decorative balls, bookcase and headboard. Any room in the house can be decorated for Christmas, just use your creativity.
Scottish print

It’s not just during the June holidays that you can see the checkered print. At Christmas it is ideal for tablecloths, napkins, bows and even end-of-year clothing matches. If the intention is to create a decorative space in your shop, you can use plaids for armchairs, cushions and use fabric to decorate Christmas balls.
Organic and rustic elements

Sustainable and artisanal elements have been on the rise for a while and this will be no different for Christmas. According to Luciana “there is the search for exclusive, differentiated and immersive elements. In other words you can focus on themed and personalized decorations, because in addition to purchasing an object, the consumer wants that object to make him feel part of himself” . the date, of a larger whole, which is Christmas”, explains the specialist.
This is where rustic Christmas items come into play. You can use pine cones, wooden details, twigs and even ice cream sticks. Also, Christmas tree scarf, hand-woven fabrics, such as twine and thread; and, in general, maintain earth colors for ornament. You can focus, for example, on a garland made with cork stoppers.
Elves

Another trend observed at the Celebra Show this year was the presence of elves, leaving aside the traditional Santa Claus. Following the green and gold colors, they are decorative options for racks, for the base of the Christmas tree and can also be hung on the door, on the wall or even inserted into paintings or frames to make the environment more welcoming and intimate.
Products for outdoor areas

Those who are inclined to set up external decorations, such as courtyards, entrance halls or gardens, can opt for well-lit environments that bring comfort. Yellow lights work best, as do decorations with vases, garlands and Christmas bows.
Intimate Christmas

In general, another perception is that Christmas will be treated in a more personal way, focused on small celebrations, with few people and unique decorations. “Based on what was presented at the Celebra Show, we noticed a general search for a more intimate Christmas, with decorations very focused on the home. Since we are in a post-pandemic year, which has already seen a World Cup, recovery of the Christmas tradition”, concludes specialist Luciana Locchi.
