According to trichologist Viviane Coutinho, taking care of your hair must be constant and, in this way, they will be prepared for solar aggression. However, some measures help to protect them even more from ultraviolet rays. Watch! Sunny days remind us that the warmer season is upon us and, contrary to popular belief, it is not just our skin or our body that needs care. In summer, it is important to be aware that sun products must be respected to ensure our well-being and health, including the application on the hair, since in this period the locks undergo intense aggression. Thinking about keeping your locks beautiful and strong, we spoke to trichologist Viviane Coutinho. An expert on the subject, she is a professor at the Brazilian Academy of Trichology, as well as being CEO of the VIC Institute, a point of reference in hair health. Below, check out the tips she shared.
1. Before the show, take care of your hair
Make sure that, even before exposure to the sun, your hair is healthy to face and resist the aggressions it will suffer in summer. The best way to do this is to feed it regularly.
2. Understand if there is a need for special care
When we talk about chemically treated or dyed locks, it’s important to understand what kind of special care they require. Knowing this, it will be possible to pay particular attention and ensure that they do not suffer major impacts even during exposure to the sun.
3. Follow the hair schedule
The hair program is a care program that will “surround” your hair from the possible damage it may suffer, and not only in summer, since daily impurities are very aggressive for the hair. However, Viviane reminds us that, on sunny days, this damage is even greater due to the power of ultraviolet rays. Therefore, keeping your schedule updated is an effective way to ensure the health of your hair is updated before, during and after a day at the beach or pool.
4. Invest in nourishing active ingredients
In the hair program we have three phases: hydration, nutrition and reconstruction. Dr. Viviane underlines that they are all essential, but that, in the second phase, the one in which we replenish the nutrients lost in the hair, the secret is to invest in active ingredients that can help the hair a lot. It is worth investing in some of them, such as argan, macadamia, hazelnut and other butters specific for this use.

5. You can never have too much protection!
Finally, the trichologist warns that it is extremely important to use additional protection to reduce the impact that the sun will have on your hair. “A hat, a cap and an umbrella are irreplaceable elements for enjoying the sun and ensuring the health not only of your hair, but of your entire body. Remember to use sunscreen for your hair. Now you can find this product and I advise you to keep it in every summer lover’s beauty case. Furthermore, drinking water regularly makes a big difference for your hair which, like us, needs water”, he concludes.
