What to add to water to remove sticky dust in the kitchen

If cleaning the sticky dust with a soap and water solution doesn’t work, then bring in the big guns and check what you have in your kitchen!

Using a solution of vinegar and water to clean sticky dust is the simplest and most common trick that housewives know all over the world. Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle in a 1:1 ratio, spray the furniture, wait five minutes, then wipe the surface thoroughly with a damp cloth.

Using baking soda-based adhesive removers is another popular cleaning method: make a paste by mixing the powder and a little water and use it to clean your cabinets. Plus, as strange as it may seem, soda works great in tandem… with vegetable oil! Mix them in a 2:1 ratio, apply to the furniture, wait 20 minutes and rinse. Please note that using oil to remove sticky dust only works on glossy surfaces: it may leave stains on matte surfaces.

Cleaning company owner Laura Ladd also recommends trying a combination of vegetable oil and vinegar. The first step will be a quasi-dry cleaning of the surfaces to remove sticky dust: first apply a thin layer of oil, scrub the area with a brush, then spray it with white vinegar. After that, you need to wash the furniture with plain soap and water.

Using lemon infusion or juice to clean cabinets can end badly: the fruit often leaves yellow marks on the white surface. To avoid this, prepare a solution of citric acid: dilute 15 grams of powder in a liter of water. Apply the liquid obtained to the contaminated surface, leave to act for half an hour, then rinse.

Using alcohol or alcohol-based non-stick products is perhaps one of the most effective ways to get rid of dust and oil mixtures. Mix two tablespoons of alcohol, one tablespoon of water and one teaspoon of laundry soap, pour the solution into a spray bottle, spray the surface of the furniture, leave for five minutes, then rinse.

How to get rid of stickiness from surfaces if this tip didn’t help? Strengthen alcohol with vinegar: mix them in equal proportions, add the same amount of water as vinegar and alcohol together, spray the solution on the shelves and leave for 20 minutes. And be prepared, the smell of vinegar can linger in the kitchen for several days!

This tip is as inexpensive as using a damp cloth to remove sticky dust: you only need a little ammonia – one tablespoon per liter of water. The solution can be applied with a sponge, but it takes time for it to work – wait 15 minutes. Also keep in mind that the liquid will drain – you need to cover the surfaces underneath.

To clean kitchen dust mixed with grease, you can also use cream of tartar: add a little water to it to form a thick paste, collect it with a sponge and wipe the dirty surface. If the layer of sticky dust is thick and persistent, replace the water with vinegar.

Borax is slightly more powerful than baking soda: due to its alkaline composition, it is excellent for degreasing. Wet the sticky surface, sprinkle it with borax, leave the powder to act for a few minutes, then rinse with water.

Using store-bought degreasers and penetrating oils is the most obvious solution when it comes to cleaning. Keep in mind one important nuance, however: sticky dust is primarily made up of fats and proteins, and you should choose a product specifically designed to remove it.

Sure, it’s unlikely to be found in your kitchen, but it’s almost certainly in your car, and it’s worth going there. Using window cleaners to remove sticky dust not only works effectively, but also quickly: after all, no driver would “soak” the car for half an hour.
