Bolo de Reis and Jewish bread are some of the options to celebrate the date
Three Kings Day, celebrated on January 6, officially marks the end of the holiday season. It’s the day you take down the Christmas tree, put the nativity scene in the box and eat the king cake. The dessert is a tribute to the visit of the Three Kings (Baltazar, Belchiorre and Gaspare) to baby Jesus; Therefore, in some European countries, it is on this day that the traditional exchange of gifts takes place.
Casa Santa Luzia has some good recipes to please fans of the Three Kings Day ritual. Babka des Rois aux et à L’Orange (R$ 167/Kg) is a bread of Jewish origin which found a special version during this year’s holidays: brioche dough flavored with vanilla pod and orange zest; the filling is almond cream and candied orange. The Brioche des Rois à Provençale (R$178/Kg) is a citrus-flavoured bread made with brioche dough delicately flavored with orange blossom water.
Among the house classics, the Bolo Rei and the Bolo Rainha, developed in collaboration with the consultant chef Marcos Pickina. Bolo Rei (R$ 229/Kg) is a sweet bread, prepared in the shape of a crown and filled with dried fruit. The Bolo Rainha (R$ 213/Kg) is a variant of the Bolo Rei, but without candied fruit; the cake has a moist dough filled with whole almonds, pine nuts and white raisins. And there is also the Galete des Rois, prepared with puff pastry and filled with almond cream (R$ 92 / 300g).
Kings Day desserts can be ordered until January 5th and purchased at the bakery until January 8th.
