Peanut appeared in the “Guinness World Records”; the publication mourns the death of the animal
Peanut, the world’s oldest chicken, has died at the age of 21. The news was released by Guinness World Recordor Book of records, Tuesday 2. “Guinness World Records mourns the death of Peanut,” we read on the publication’s website. According to the owner, Marsi Darwin, the hen began to become ill on December 23 and died on Christmas Day.
“I know a lot of people are losing close family members right now, and my heart aches for the world. But for me, Peanut was a close member of the family. We were reunited 21 years ago when I got her from an egg, and although I realize she lived an incredibly long life for a chicken, I’m still heartbroken,” Marsi wrote on her blog.
According to Marsi, the hen lived until her first two years in the dining room of her house, after being abandoned by her mother. After a quiet life, hatching many eggs, Peaunut again lived out her last days in the dining room, next to her daughter Millie, who lived to be 15 years old.
Marsi celebrated the bird’s longevity. “A chicken lives five to eight years, so it’s a great achievement,” he said in 2023 Washington Post.
The tutor points out that Peanut loved to watch television on her lap and was widely covered by the media while she was alive. “Peanut’s wit and antics enchanted viewers online and in the media. He was incredible,” she laments.
