Do it in 15 minutes: Which areas of the kitchen are enough to clean to make it look clean?

Will the guests be arriving any minute or are you just tired of the chaos? We explain how to quickly clean the kitchen!

If there’s one room in the house where perfect order can literally give way to complete chaos in just a few minutes, it’s the kitchen. Learning how to clean it in 15 minutes is a superpower to master!

Lynsey Crombie, TV presenter, blogger and bestselling cleaning author, knows how to have a clean kitchen in no time. According to her, it is above all a matter of clearly defining your priorities. So this is what you have to do when you don’t have time to “generalize”.

Wash the dishes

Do it in 15 minutes: Which areas of the kitchen are enough to clean to make it look clean?

According to Lynsey, washing dishes in the kitchen is the first step in cleaning: it helps remove the most visible clutter and makes it easier to wipe down all surfaces. If you have a dishwasher, you will quickly cope with this task. She is not there ? Here are some tips that will help you quickly deal with a mountain of dirty dishes and pots.

  • Find a product that effectively eliminates fat – experiment with different ones until you find what works faster than others.
  • Don’t forget about soaking: leave the water for a few minutes to soften any leftover food on the dishes.
  • Use the hottest water possible: the grease will dissolve more quickly and the water itself will evaporate from the surface in less time.
  • Put on gloves. Firstly, it will help you use warmer water, and secondly, it will help your manicure last longer.
  • Place the dishwashing liquid so that you don’t have to reach it. Use an automatic touch dispenser – it will save you time.
  • First collect all the dirty dishes near the sink, then mine. Quickly cleaning the kitchen is incompatible with cleaning every plate.

Wipe the table top

Clean kitchen surfaces

High-quality kitchen cleaning is impossible without it: the countertop is the largest surface that first attracts attention. How long it will take to wash it depends on the situation: in more difficult cases, Linsey advises washing the surface first with a solution of detergent and water, then treating it with a disinfectant spray.

Clean the sink

A dirty sink can spoil the impression of the most luxurious kitchen. Fortunately, washing it doesn’t take much time. “Mix vinegar and dishwashing liquid in a 1:1 ratio, apply the resulting solution in the sink, leave for five minutes, then rinse with clean water,” advises Lynsey.

Taking out the trash

So you have five minutes! Lynsey reminds us that cleaning the kitchen also means combating unpleasant odors, so spend the free time emptying the trash. Does it continue to emit an unpleasant miasma? Take the spray you prepared for the sink, spray it on the walls of the tank using a spray bottle, leave it on for five minutes, then wash it off.

Wipe down your equipment

Of course, not everything! According to Crombie, there are only two appliances to focus on: cleaning the stove and washing the refrigerator are essential – these are the most visible surfaces. Professional cleaner Liam Dickerson recommends using a solution of hot water and washing-up liquid – either way, they’ll get the job done quickly.

Tidy up the floor

clean the kitchen

Have you finished cleaning your kitchen surfaces? Grab a vacuum cleaner or start sweeping the kitchen if you don’t have one. That’s right: According to Dickerson, wet cleaning the kitchen if you’re short on time will be useless – after all, you don’t have time to wait for the floors to dry. Water should only be used locally to remove visible stains.

Decorate the kitchen

This is the last step: it’s time to make the kitchen comfortable. Now is the time to collect your dirty sponges and dishcloths and replace them with new ones (in the case of towels, freshly laundered dishcloths). You can also light an aromatic candle in the kitchen or plug in an electric aroma diffuser – or simply brew a cup of coffee, the smell of which is no less pleasant than that of essential oils.

What can you skip during a quick kitchen clean?

According to Lynsey, it’s not worth wasting your time on:

  • tops and “insides” of cabinets,
  • refrigerator shelves,
  • oven,
  • microwave inside,
  • blinds or curtains,
  • furniture,
  • hood.

Either you will do all of this during spring cleaning, or you will break the list into small tasks that you will gradually “close”.

10 tips for cleaning the kitchen quickly

  1. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the cabinets – it’s faster than picking up crumbs with a damp cloth.
  2. Wipe the hood with vegetable oil applied to a cloth – it removes sticky dust faster than most sprays.
  3. Keep a spray bottle containing a mixture of vinegar and water on hand. It is best to remove greasy stains immediately.
  4. Get a steam cleaner: it will instantly clean the tiles and the joints between them.
  5. To clean the area under the stove, remove the bottom drawer where baking sheets are usually stored.
  6. Store small items in a container – this will make it much easier to wipe down the surface underneath.
  7. Cover the tops of the cabinets with parchment paper – this is where the most persistent sticky dust accumulates.
  8. Use a mesh laundry bag in the dishwasher: put sponges, regular brushes and silicone brushes in it for washing.
  9. If something breaks, use a piece of white bread to blot up the shards of glass.
  10. And finally, don’t clean the kitchen “all at once”: distribute the responsibilities between all members of the family.
