It’s the type of consumption that requires sacrifice to achieve meaningful results
In general, whey protein is the supplement that contributes to your daily protein needs. Therefore, this consumption becomes recommended for the purpose of losing weight or increasing muscle mass. Keep in mind that taking this supplement still raises questions, such as: What should not be mixed with whey protein?
Find out what not to mix with whey protein
“It is not advisable to drink alcoholic beverages immediately after consuming supplements, as they can compromise the absorption of nutrients by the body. The ideal is to follow the recommendations of nutritionists and health professionals regarding the best times and combinations to consume the whey protein”, advises Vitafor nutritionist Taciane Oliveira in an exclusive interview with Sport Life.
Restrictions that do not prevent the inclusion of other mixtures, such as in the preparation of pancakes, heating, in a cake or in various recipes with a “protein” side, so this depends on the other components present in whey proteins.
“There is no problem if you mix pure amino acids. Now, with other supplements, it will depend on each supplement. It’s a more specific thing that we have to see and evaluate independently,” reflects nutritionist Cynthia Howlett in dialogue with the report.
The example of a “classic whey protein” mix is with water or milk, choices that differ only in the energy “base”. Fats, carbohydrates and proteins are present in milk and are therefore not recommended for those who are lactose intolerant. Whey protein combined with water is recommended for hypertrophy goals.
“It changes the amount of calories you consume. Of course, if you go for a run right after taking Whey, if you take it with whole milk you may feel sicker and weigh a little more. So when you drink it with water you digest it faster”, underlines Cinzia.
Can you replace a meal with whey protein?
“Whey protein comes to supplement your diet. Ideally, it should not be replaced by a protein diet, whether it is animal protein, meat, chicken, fish or vegetables, legumes and tofu. So, ideally, you should always have food,” explains Howlett.
What are the benefits of taking whey protein?
Increased muscle mass, feeling of satiety for weight loss, physical performance, immune system, control of blood pressure, blood sugar and prevention of sarcopenia in the elderly are part of the benefits of whey protein of milk. However, these results will not be achieved if someone does not follow an exercise routine.
“If you want to gain muscle mass, you also need to do exercise, especially strength. There is no point in just taking whey and not doing exercise, because the results are not as effective,” concludes nutritionist Cynthia Howlett.
