Opinion: ‘The Bear’ series is more than a recipe for success

Series that has as its backdrop the madness of a restaurant kitchen that makes us reflect on time and the delicacy of processes

The list of ingredients that make “The Bear” series one of the most acclaimed of recent times is extensive. He understands the craziness of the processes in a professional kitchen, the time spent solely on work, the need for purpose (and a lot of therapy) in this life. It also has some emotional memory about what we tasted during our trip and the emotion that certain flavors cause in us. Irreplaceable is the heritage we carry in our pockets regarding the emotional cycles of the environment in which we grew up and, the icing on the cake, how delicacy, organization, the beauty of the environment and care for others have a direct relationship with better creations of human beings, not only in the kitchen.

The series, available on the Star+ platform, tells all of this by putting food and its creation and production processes in the background. The human beings behind the ideas, values and purposes are, of course, included in the party, which can be a delight or a complete disaster. It is not my mission, in this text, to summarize the 18 episodes of the first two seasons of the award-winning series, which had episode 6 of the second season indicated by specialized critics as one of the best episodes ever produced in history. . Also because, as in every pleasant gastronomic experience, putting facts first would ruin the emotion of being surprised by a new flavour.

The marathon two-day immersion in history, led by chefs Carmem and Sydney, brought the certainty that there is something very wrong with a recipe created in haste, with blood in the eyes and the absence of a real presence in the process – be it the discovery of a perfect donut, an unusual mix of flavors or a pizza bought on the corner. As an entry, the series offers us the chance to dive headfirst into the chaos. The main dish arrives at the table as an opportunity to observe values and intentions. The question of success comes at dessert. Coffee is served with a sigh: what are we doing with our time once again? When the bill comes, we will know how much the experience of remaining aware of what we feel and the value of what we feel for others is worth.
