The ABAV (Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies) recently published a sample survey on the performance of its members’ agencies during the upcoming holidays.

In the last six months of 2023, when 67.9% of agencies recorded an increase in their revenues, compared to the same period of the previous year, São Paulo was the most searched for city by the end consumer.




Next holidays

The national list continues with Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Gramado (RS) and Fortaleza (CE). In the same period, the search for international destinations was led by Lisbon (Portugal), followed by Paris (France), Rome (Italy) and Orlando (USA).

However, in the most anticipated holiday of the year, which begins on Friday 9 February, the ranking gains new destinations, both in Brazil and abroad.

For obvious reasons, leadership in Carnival period comes from the city of Rio de Janeiro, followed by Salvador (BA), Recife (PE), Fortaleza (CE) and Sao Paulo (SP). Among the international destinations, Orlando (USA) stands out, followed by Punta Del Este (Uruguay), Bariloche (Argentina), Barcelona (Spain) and Cartagena (Colombia).



For the holidays Easter, on Friday March 29, Gramado was the most searched city in Rio Grande do Sul, followed by Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Fortaleza and Salvador. While Buenos Aires and Mendoza, both in Argentina, Orlando and Paris were the most cited international cities.

Nonetheless, 84.5% of ABAV survey respondents highlighted rising airline ticket prices as one of their biggest sales challenges, with 46.4% of respondents finding the solution to be changing destinations.

According to Google’s internal data, shared with Travel by faresearches associated with the term “tourism” increased by 76% compared to December 2019.

One of the trends highlighted recently by the Ministry of Tourism, compared to the pre-pandemic period, is that Brazilians are more digitalized and prefer tourist destinations closer to home. According to Google data, for example, the term “hotels near me” has seen an impressive growth of 412%.
