The right color for a bedroom, says interior designer Taniya Nayak, makes a huge difference. The ideal solution would be to paint the walls, however, according to Tania, you can change the palette of the room with the help of other elements – curtains or drapes, decorative pillows and other textiles can change everything.

Nayak herself prefers light and warm colors complemented by dark and deep colors, but she believes that you should choose shades based on your taste and you just need to follow the rule of contrast – add details of accent with light and soothing colors.

Soft lighting is an essential element of comfort. “I don’t think I have a single bulb in my room that’s over 15 watts or cold light,” says decorator Matthew Bies.

Sarah Fishburne, director of trends and design at home furnishings retailer The Home Depot, recommends creating intimate lighting with dimmable lamps: “This allows you to create the ambiance you want without sacrificing functionality,” says Sarah.

Fishburne also recommends creating layered lighting by adding sconces, bedside lamps and floor lamps to the ceiling light. You can light them in different ways: you will have both bright and practical lighting for evenings and special lighting for reading.

Soft and comfortable textures can be introduced into the bedroom by adding pillows and throws. “If you’re looking for luxury, take a look at cashmere throws and blankets. If they don’t fit your budget, just choose the fabrics you want to touch. Remember, you’re not just looking for a visually and tactilely pleasing bed, but the overall experience: add fabrics to every corner of the room where they fit,” advises interior designer Stacia Garcia.

Greenery and plants can create an atmosphere of serenity in the bedroom and make the relaxation space beautiful and pleasing to the eye, says Fishburne. But that’s not all: as research shows, indoor flowers not only purify the air, but also help eliminate feelings of anxiety and fatigue.

“The effect on the sense of smell is very important: it is an element of the atmosphere of comfort. I make sure to add pleasant scents to my room, and scented candles seem to be the easiest way to do this. If you’re concerned about an open fire indoors, use alternatives: a diffuser with sticks or an ultrasonic aroma diffuser. Relaxing scents, play of light and shadow, soft and touching textures – all this will help you calm down and relax before bed, ”says Nayak.

Choose the right temperature

According to Corinne Bentsen, CEO of Home Depot, choosing the right coverage is important. A cozy bed doesn’t have to be warm – focus on your tastes first and foremost and consider two blankets if you’re sleeping in a group and your ‘settings’ don’t match.

“Don’t rely on photos found on social media or fashion trends. Instead, create a room filled with your happy memories. Nostalgia is the most comfortable feeling,” advises interior designer Stephanie Mullen.

She recommends using personal items and photographs for this purpose – for example, photos of yourself during a trip or some kind of family heirloom. “It’s always nice to buy new things, but it’s the items that have sentimental value that bring us joy,” adds Stéphanie.
