Carnival: 5 tips for taking care of your intimate health during the holidays

Experts list the main intimate hygiene precautions to enjoy Carnival in complete safety and serenity

OR Carnival It’s coming and a little attention is important to avoid any problems with your intimate health. In this sense, gynecologists Yara Caldato and Cinthia Ferreira have listed some points to follow during the lockdown days, to enjoy the celebrations safely and serenely. Watch:

1. Be careful when using a public restroom

It’s important to remember that shared bathrooms harbor many germs. According to gynecologist Yara Caldato, the degree of contamination of the environment varies from the frequency with which it is cleaned during the day to the ventilation of the rooms.

“The spread of some pathogenic viruses and bacteria may occur in public toilets. But sitting on a contaminated toilet and having some viruses or bacteria on the skin will not necessarily make a person ill, as these are not diseases caused only by contact. However, if a woman has a lesion on her skin, it could be contaminated with a specific bacterium,” he explains.

Therefore, advises the gynecologist Cinthia Ferreira buy disposable plastic to line the toilet and, thus, being able to sit down to urinate without running the risk of contamination. They should be carried in a bag and thrown away immediately after use. “In this way the risk of contamination is significantly reduced”, he comments.

2. Don’t hold your pee

According to gynecologist Yara Caldato, the female bladder has the capacity to store approximately 300 ml of urine. “Once this happens, small amounts of urine can be lost with little effort and accumulate in the panties, becoming a breeding ground for infection,” she says.

Additionally, urine in the bladder can also become a breeding ground for bacteria. So, the longer you hold urine to go to a suitable toilet, the greater the possibility of generating problems, such as urinary infections, due to the presence of these bacteria.

3. Avoid tight and uncomfortable costumes

The heat can harm intimate health, since the combination of stuffy weather, sweat and friction together with tight clothing or synthetic fabrics makes the region favorable for the appearance of fungi and bacteria, which can develop diseases such as candidiasis, informs Yara Caldato.

Wet clothing should also be avoided. The ideal is to always protect the intimate area with 100% cotton clothing. “It’s not a myth: private parts need to breathe. Daily protectors for long periods and tampons should also be avoided”, comments Cinthia Ferreira.

4. Don’t share private parts

Underwear is for single and exclusive use, as sharing can transmit diseases. Experts explain that each person has their own bacterial flora and the change can cause imbalances, leading to bacterial infections, as well as the transmission of fungi that can be found in the tissues, resulting in secretions.

5. Use a condom!

In addition to preventing unwanted pregnancies, the use of condoms is extremely important to avoid contamination from sexually transmitted diseases, whether through oral or anal sex.

Plus, gynecologist Yara Caldato shares some essential items to carry in your pouch during breaks and protect your intimate health:

  • Condoms (male or female);
  • cleaning wipes;
  • Alcoholic gel (for cleaning hands).
