The World Cheese Cup expects to receive two thousand cheeses at the Sao Paulo competition

The international delegation of the Guilde des Fromagers will travel to Sao Paulo to celebrate cheese

Chaired by Frenchman Laurent Dubois, a cheesemaker in Paris and one of the best artisans in France in the cheese category, the cheese and dairy competition which will take place on April 12th in Sao Paulo is open for registrations until March 15th. The competition is one of the attractions of the Brazilian Cheese World Cup.

The peculiarity of the World Cup competition is that all products are accepted, as long as they have some kind of registration in your location. The cheeses will be received at the B32 Theater on April 9, 10 and 11.

An agreement has been stipulated with the Ministry of Agriculture and products from other countries will be able to enter Brazil, exclusively for competition and without marketing rights, as long as they have certification of origin. The Department of Agriculture of São Paulo is also a partner of the event and is preparing a wonderful surprise for the awards evening. We already have more than 800 registered products and collection points are being organized in the United States, France, Italy, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

The jurors will be trained through an online course specially designed by the Mons Formation school and through in-person training held by the Frenchman Philippe Dumain on 11 April, starting from Savencia International Cheese Schoolknown for his expertise in sensory analysis.

Theater B32, cheese with whale milk

When we organized the first Cheese World Cup in Araxa, Minas Gerais, our goal was to organize it every two years in a different state. But the success of the event in São Paulo was so great that the members of SerTãoBras, the association that organizes the event, decided to stay in São Paulo. Then invitations arrived from other states and it was decided to follow the advice of the president of the Guilde Internationale des Fromagers: “this place is beautiful, welcoming, central, if you leave here someone will steal your idea, as they have done in Minas Gerais” said the wise Frenchman.

That place is the B32 Theater, in Praça da Baleia, in the economic heart of Brazil. We joke that bringing artisan producers to this place is like making cheese out of whale’s milk. The milking is difficult, but the end result will be the richest dry cheese that has ever existed in the history of this country.

SerTãoBras today brings together more than 250 producers in 18 states of Brazil. They all strive to get to São Paulo, bringing their cheeses to be evaluated by a battalion of 300 qualified judges. Watch the whales being milked. For a small producer, a medal is recognition that helps open markets and make their cheese stand out.
