Traditional celebration of the Serra Gaúcha, Uvada da Nona is hosted by the “nona” Santa Gazzola Pegoraro, 92 years old, who last Saturday (2) shared with the public the recipe for uva chimia, a traditional southern dessert prepared with broth and pulp of the fruit – which he learned about as a child.
The event highlighted the importance of preserving the cultural roots of the region and distributed approximately 3,800 portions of uvada to the public, prepared with 350 kg of grapes and 135 kg of sugar.
On the official website of the Grape Festival, Nona Santa said that the jelly distributed to the public during the event brought back “the taste of childhood” and memories of her mother. Queen of the 2024 Grape Festival, Lizandra Chinali said the traditional dessert is part of her daily life.
“My family has the tradition of producing chimia grapes, so this dessert is very present in my house. Today it was actually my breakfast,” he said, noting that Santa’s ninth recipe is simply delicious.
