Mother of 12 children, including twins, the influencer tells how she manages to combine routine, love life and still have time to take care of herself

Mariana Arasaki’s 12 children’s routine needs to be printed in more than one place, to ensure nothing is missing from each child’s schedule – a real challenge for someone with so many children. “I write everything down. Both physically, in a clearly visible place, and also on my cell phone, so as not to forget anything.”

The challenge is immense, starting with the agendas. The solution was to separate boys and girls. “The girls have ballet on Monday and the same day and now the boys do soccer at home. I take the girls and my nanny takes the boys. They do their extracurricular activities at the same times.” Meals and homework are always at the same time for everyone. In fact, the digital influencer makes it a point to keep up with everyone’s schoolwork.

But even with detailed planning, there would be no way to run out of help. The support network is extensive. They are part of Mariana’s courageous troop: two nannies, a cook, a person who stays at night to help put the younger twins to sleep, as well as, of course, her mother and six of her aunts. “My brothers are my best friends. I wish my children had the same relationship with their siblings. I really encourage friendship between them,” she says.

One of the secrets to success is encouraging companionship among children. “The advantage of having many children is that they learn from their siblings, become more independent and play together a lot. I often think that one child is simply more tiring than my 12,” she jokes.

The veterans, according to the mother, are already embarking on the mission of guiding the younger children. “It’s really nice to see the little ones asking the older ones for help.” Of course, as is to be expected in sibling relationships, arguments can occur. But in the end they are all together, even when they get sick. “It’s a domino effect, it’s a general problem,” she admits.

Mariana says that one of the biggest difficulties she has encountered so far came right at the beginning, during the breastfeeding period. Because she had low milk production, she could not breastfeed her children, which made her feel unwell at first. “I’ve learned that the important thing is for your child to grow and develop well. Giving my children formula hasn’t made me any less of a mother.”

Maintaining the individuality of each person is a value that Mariana considers fundamental. “Even though we are 12 children, we try to have individual moments with them, to talk, listen to what they think. Each child has her own personality and preferences.”

“Trust in God’s plans”

Of the total, eight are “Maria”. And it’s not an expressive force, no. All his daughters bear at least one name after Jesus’ mother. The eldest is 12 years old. “My faith is the integral response to all reality, this means that in all areas of life I live faith”. According to the influencer, “trust in God’s plans” was the motivation for this continually rising “ladder”. “When we got married we decided to open up to life” he says.

And counting every second of the day, what does the romantic relationship look like? “The kids go to bed early, so I always have time with my husband, whether it’s watching a movie or series, having dinner at home, or going out with him. It’s very important for our marriage to cultivate our life together.” Both Mariana and her husband Carlos have active social media profiles where they show what their family’s daily life is like.

But “one to one” time is just as important. Among the twelve agendas of the day, Mariana says she finds space to pay attention to it. “It is very important that mothers have time to take care of themselves, as this affects our home and our health,” she says.

In her free time Mariana tries to practice one of her hobbies, for example watching films, traveling or going out with friends or her husband. This usually happens when children are busy with other tasks, such as school.

Every day, mom says the best way is to get up early to get ready or play with the little ones. Rest has no fixed times and can take place in the middle of watching a film – either while watching or while sleeping – and even while watching the little ones have fun.

“You can sleep anywhere, it’s a skill I developed after becoming a mother. Any waiting room is a great time for a nap.” But to cope with everything, the mother tries to respect the 11pm bedtime limit, especially because she starts all over again the next day.

Mariana admits that taking care of 12 children is not easy. Asked what she thinks of the “real motherhood” movement, in which mothers take a stand on the challenges of motherhood, the influencer agrees that all sides need to be addressed, but says she doesn’t see the role as “negative” .

“I believe it is necessary to talk about real motherhood, so as not to frustrate women’s expectations, but it happens that today women talk about motherhood as something negative and I can’t see it that way,” she says.

For Mariana, being a mother is amazing. “Motherhood is amazing, it transforms the mother, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t involve work, but work is rewarding.”
