It is good for the skin and hair and has a calming effect […]
The relaxing session, in waters ranging from 37° to 39° C, is recommended for cleansing the skin and hair, acts as a source of vitamin B and has a calming effect on the body.
It could be another one of those energizing treatments at any spa. But the wooden tubs are full of hops, yeast, hot water and… beer.
In the north of Iceland, 100 kilometers from the Arctic, the city of Akureyri is home to this curious Spa with treatments in tubs filled with the drink, whose highlight is the side tap for free consumption of as much as you want able to consume during the (rigid) session lasting 25 minutes.
Beer bath
The drink used in the baths is in its initial fermentation stage, whose low pH brings benefits such as cleansing and revitalizing hair and skin, as well as serving as a source of protein, potassium, iron, zinc and magnesium.
As the establishment itself explains, beer hops are also rich in antioxidants and alpha acids, have a calming and relaxing effect on the muscles and body, and their oils have an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin.
You cannot exceed the 25 minutes available, in one of the seven pool options that can be used by a maximum of two people. At the end of the session, however, the client is asked to leave the room by an employee who knocks loudly on the door to warn him that the game is over and invites him to relax on the loungers on the upper floor.
To prolong the revitalizing and emollient effect of beer on skin and hair, the Spa recommends not taking a shower for three to five hours following the session. The effects of ingested beer can last for a few more hours.
