The astrological New Year is celebrated months later than the traditional one. Find out why astrology considers 2024 to begin in March
The traditional New Year, according to the Gregorian calendar, is celebrated on January 1st. However, for Astrology, the new year begins when the Sun leaves Pisces, the last sign of the Zodiac, and enters Aries, generally on March 20th. This happens because, unlike the January date, which has cultural influences, the Astrological New Year is defined through the astronomical foundations and natural cycles of the planet.
New Year’s? Understand why astrology considers the beginning of 2024 to be in March
Equinox and Sun in Aries
The astrological New Year is based on the movement of the Sun. Therefore, its beginning is marked by the autumn equinox, in the southern hemisphere, and the spring equinox, in the north. This astronomical phenomenon refers to the meeting points between the Earth’s rotation and the planet’s orbit around the Sun. Therefore, during the Equinox, day and night are the same length. Furthermore, the astrological New Year is also represented by the entry of the Sun into the sign of Aries, thus starting a new cycle in the zodiac.
Calendar and New Year in March
The calendar we traditionally use is an adaptation of the Egyptian calendar. Analyzing this calendar, you can see that the months of the year are linked to numbers, such as September, October, November, with seven, eight and nine respectively. However, September is month nine and not seven, just as November is month eleven and not nine. Now, if we consider September as the seventh month and so on, March would be the first month of the year!
New cycles for the astrological New Year
The entry of the Sun into Aries, starting the journey into the astrological New Year, opens up paths of renewal, especially in relation to goals and objectives. The Arian influence brings driving force to all the signs of the zodiac, thus attracting the energy necessary to start new cycles. Furthermore, the astrological New Year also requires balance in order to take advantage of all the positivity that can arise in the cycle.
