Buenos Aires: El Taiuto de Palermo transformed into a bar


The large house in Parque Tres de Febrero served as a dairy in the morning and a tango hall in the evening

A jewel of traditional and picturesque architecture Buenos Aires it was restored to house the canteen SELENA Coffee . Located in Tres de Febrero Park Close to Japanese garden the dwelling El Tambito it was built in 1877 for another purpose.




At the end of the 19th century, tango was in its infancy and the palace had a double identity. In the morning he sold milk, hence the name El Tambito , because “tambo” means dairy in Spanish. At night it transformed into a ballroom with candles and an orchestra.

The palace has a 140-year historical legacy as the only one of the glory days of Buenos Aires tango that has not been destroyed. The building had been abandoned for more than a decade and was the subject of a restoration that restored its original architectural structure.

OR SELENA Coffee has been open since December 2023. The house sells specialty coffees Huila TO Colombia and dishes. The place is decorated with old photos of the construction and large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. It is possible to stay in one of the three small internal spaces El Tambito or eat at one of the tables on the balcony overlooking the Palermo forest .

The café is open from Monday to Sunday, from 8:00 to 20:00, in Avenida Adolfo Berro, 3900, in Plaza Sicilia.

The mansion El Tambito it’s a 15 minute walk from Museum of Latin American Art (Malba).
