Kyoto: fast food now occupies a centuries-old tatami house

The more than 100-year-old space was restored to house the Starbucks coffee franchise

An old traditional wooden house in Kyoto, Japan is one of the most beautiful locations of Starbucks Coffee. Located in the neighborhood of Gion, the location, which is more than 100 years old, has been revitalized to accommodate coffee franchising. The unit is one of 27 stores in the Starbucks known as Regional Landmark Stores, whose goal is to enhance regional history and Japanese culture.

Interestingly, this is the first store in the chain to have tatami rooms, following the Japanese habit of sitting on the floor to eat meals. At the back of the room there is also a beautiful Japanese garden. As in other Starbucks units, the drink menu features several options of coffee, tea, soft drinks, and some alcoholic creations.
