The doctor claims he was the target of around 40 recordings tampered with using his image and that he called the MP
Summary
Dr. Drauzio Varella announced a complaint against Meta, owner of Facebook and Instagram, for improperly advertising ineffective medical treatments using his image.
The doctor Drauzio Varella declared that he would open a complaint to the Public Prosecutor against Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, for improper use of his image to spread false news regarding ineffective medical treatments. According to him, he is collecting materials where he appears.
In a newspaper interview The globe, released on Tuesday 16th, Drauzio revealed that for some time he has received several videos in which his image is used to advertise fake treatments. It is estimated that he was the target of at least 40 records adulterated with his face.
“They make money from it and don’t worry about it,” underlines the doctor.
According to him, cataloging materials is a means of putting pressure on social networks that allow the circulation of this type of content to prevent its spread, since many users may believe in its effectiveness. In all those received, Varella underlined that they were lies.
“It’s difficult to spend ten, fifteen days without another [vídeo falso com sua imagem]. And you contact the Meta people, they don’t answer you. When they respond, they say they haven’t found anything that goes against their rules. They are partners of these counterfeiters, they earn money to increase. How did it get to you, how did it get to the person who sent it to me,” she asks.
Drauzio claims that the case constitutes a crime against public health, as the falsified images are used to deceive people in order to sell medicines and vitamins. According to him, social networks linked to Meta present a much higher number of cases than, for example, YouTube and Tik Tok, which are more receptive to complaints.
“We are filing a complaint and complaint with the Public Prosecutor. We have lawyers who will look into this matter. It’s been years like this. I forward it to the people who work with me, who forward it to Meta, to explain what’s going on, but they don’t care. […] They use these networks to sell products that put public health at risk, saying that tea cures diabetes, solves erection problems, and people buy them,” he complained.
OR Earth reached out to Meta for comment on the matter, but did not receive a response until the last update of this report.
