Once upon a time there was a rock festival, which in 1985 became a point of reference for band performances in Brazil. The memory has now become a museum, celebrated in the atmosphere of the 40th anniversary, with a new edition of the festival that has already announced everything, even rock. With the musical genre in name only, Rock in Rio 2024 announced this Tuesday (4/19) that it will also have samba.

The novelty will occupy a new space in the edition, called Global Village, which will honor the culture of different continents.

The Brazilian section, which will represent Latin America, will be organized by the Clube do Samba, a group created in 1979 by the samba veteran João Nogueira, known to the new generations as the father of Diogo Nogueira. The samba club will be made up exclusively of women, but will welcome guests, including Diogo himself.

Yes, there will be a samba club at Rock in Rio 2024.

There will be a bit of everything

The event will also have a full day, the first of this year’s edition, dedicated to Brazilian rap, trap and funk, with performances by Ludmilla, Matuê (with Teto and Wiu), 21 Savage and Travis Scott on Palco Mundo and MC Cabelinho, Funk Orquestra (with the participation of MC Daniel, Rebecca and MC Soffia), Veigh and Keylack and Orachi with Chefin on the Sunset Stage.

The program also includes performances by Cindy Lauper, Mariah Carey, Shawn Mendes, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran and many other names in pop music.

It’s no surprise that country singers are already demanding space on festival stages.

Rock in Rio starts on September 13th and will last until the 22nd in Cidade do Rock, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. General ticket sales begin May 23 on the Ticketmaster website. The exclusive presale for Rock in Rio Club and Itaú customers will take place from May 14th to 22nd.
