“Inspired by a true story“: and immediately everything takes on a different dimension.
After escaping an abusive relationship, Alex moves into a shelter with Maddie, her two-year-old daughter. With no money, he finds work as a cleaner to barely make ends meet.
With no hope in her own dysfunctional family, Alex must simultaneously battle an abusive ex-partner for custody of her daughter while trying to navigate the complex world of bureaucracy and American bureaucracy. But even in the fight against poverty and homelessness, a young woman dares to dream of a future as a writer…
Based on the memoir by Stephanie Land, Maid: hard work, low pay and mother’s will to surviveThe mini-series created by Molly Smith Metzler – who will soon be reuniting with Margot Robbie on a very promising new project… – is a raw, poignant, vivid, realistic and inspiring exploration of poverty, told mostly through storytelling. A view of the heroine.
And what a heroine! The role of Alex is played by the charming Margaret Cowell, a real revelation, fair and natural, brilliant in all things, who makes you go through every possible emotion: from anger, to pain, to fear, to love, all in a few words. Indeed, everything comes through his face and his expression, often painless, and his big, tired eyes, which express everything. The young actress also stars here opposite her famous mother, Andie McDowell, who also plays her mother on screen.
A fascinating and courageous portrait of a woman, the mini-series is a pleasant surprise that quickly generated enthusiasm and conviction with its interesting social theme. With the accuracy of her words, she realistically portrays everything related to domestic violence and psychological domination of an isolated woman, besides highlighting the difficulty of surviving a single mother in a society that does not help them much.

Despite its heavy subject matter, Maid — which is also one of Netflix’s top 7 shows that bring tears to viewers’ minds — is a true heartthrob that will break your heart just right. Grip and move, it’s a real slap in the face of phenomenal power.
