Brazilian cheese surpasses Swiss product and wins the 3rd Cheese World Cup

Morro Azul cheese, produced in Santa Catarina by Vermont Queijos Especiais, was the grand champion of the 3rd World Cheese Cup.

After drawing with the Swiss Gruyère, the Brazilian product ended up winning and establishing himself as one of the best in the world.

Morro Azul is described as “a very soft and very creamy cheese. The buttery and dairy notes are predominant.” Another important point is that the best cheese in the world is lactose-free, without the addition of the enzyme lactase. “Lactose is naturally eliminated in the production of mature cheeses,” explains the brand’s official website.

Almost two thousand cheeses participated in the competition. In the second phase the experts taste and evaluate the cheeses. Morro Azul and the Swiss Le Gruyére AOP Réserve 14 Months averaged 6.13 points, with scores ranging from 3 to 7. But, at the time of the tie-break, the Brazilian finished first.

Led by French cheesemaker Laurent Dubois, the Cheese World Cup is one of the most important dairy events for Brazil and the world. Another 99 cheeses received the super gold medal, 149 gold, 150 silver and 200 bronze medals.
