Only 22% of the target audience has been vaccinated against the flu

The priority population is 75.8 million people

Data from the Ministry of Health shows that only 22% of the target audience has been vaccinated against influenza. To date, 14.4 million doses have been administered to a target population of 75.8 million people. The vaccination campaign officially began on March 25.

“From now on, the expectation is to immunize 75 million people through the Unified Health System (SUS), such as the elderly, pregnant women, postpartum women, healthcare workers, children aged 6 months to less than 6 years, public school teachers education, among other priority recipients,” Health Minister Nísia Trindade said at the time.

The states with the lowest percentages of vaccinated population are the Federal District (13.78%), Mato Grosso do Sul (14.18%), Mato Grosso (14.36%), Bahia (14.92%) and Rio de January (17.76%).

In 2024, vaccination against influenza will take place in the first half of the year in the North-East, Central-West, South-East and South regions, while in the North it will take place in the second half. The change in strategy, starting in 2023, seeks to accommodate the climatic particularities of the region, which begins during the Amazon winter, when there is greater viral circulation and transmission of influenza.

This year’s vaccine composition is intended to protect against influenza A (H1N1), influenza A (H3N2) and influenza B.
