The dermatologist explains how some treatments can help maintain hydration during this time of year
Autumn is a season characterized by milder temperatures, colorful landscapes and a peaceful atmosphere. However, this climate change can also affect the skin in subtle ways, requiring extra care to maintain its health and beauty.
The winds of the season are dry and can strip moisture from the skin, leaving it drier, rougher and more irritated. This happens especially in the most exposed areas of the body, such as the face and hands. When combined with lower temperatures, autumn winds can cause significant damage to the skin’s protective barrier, causing problems such as flaking, redness and even cracking.

As the doctor explains, in autumn it is important to adopt a skin care routine that includes:

- Increase your water intake, even if you’re not thirsty;
- Having a skincare routine that includes products that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides that help retain moisture in the skin and strengthen the skin barrier;
- Avoid harsh products, such as cleaning products, which can remove the natural protective layer, causing increased dryness.
Avoid hot baths
At this time of year, Dr. Vivian Simões also recommends avoiding hot baths, as they can contribute to loss of skin moisture. Although they are tempting during cold days, according to your doctor, the best solution is to opt for short, hot showers and then use the ideal moisturizer for your skin type, to lock in moisture and help prevent loss of liquids.
