- Genetic factors, which are linked to some specific ethnic groups;
- Use of corticosteroids and anabolic steroids;
- Hormonal changes, such as those caused by polycystic ovary syndrome;
- Insulin resistance;

For patients diagnosed with PCOS, medications that stimulate ovulation and improve insulin resistance may be indicated.
“PCOS is a very common disease. We know that 70 to 80% of women with PCOS suffer from hirsutism. They may have difficulty getting pregnant due to difficulty in ovulating, resistance to the action of insulin and increased androgens. Therefore, there can be a strong correlation between hirsutism and infertility, and early treatment can reverse this outcome,” he emphasizes.
When a tumor is responsible for excessive hair growth on a woman’s body, it is necessary to investigate where it is located and then determine the best treatment, which may even involve surgical removal.
If hirsutism occurs due to the use of a certain drug, the best solution is to discontinue it, if possible.
