During the summer period the entire east wing of the palace can be visited via guided tours

Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the monarch of the United Kingdom, opens to visitors every year during the summer: in 2024, this will be from 11 July to 29 September. The news is that this year it will be possible to book guided tours to discover the East Wing, never before open to the general public.

Second Fund of the royal collectionwhich manages the palaces of the monarchy, the opening will be possible thanks to the completion of improvement and conservation works that lasted five years.

The east wing comprises the facade of the historic building, including the famous central balcony where members of the royal family have made public appearances on special occasions since 1851. Currently, this part of the palace is mainly used for official meetings and events. But it was previously occupied by Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their children.

The visits, which will be carried out in small groups and accompanied by a specialized guide, will pass through the Main Corridor, decorated with paintings by Thomas Gainsborough, Sir Thomas Lawrence and Franz Xaver Winterhalter.

In the Yellow Living Room the highlight is the decoration with elements brought directly from China, such as the 18th century hand-painted wallpaper, the miniature porcelain pagodas and the clock with two turquoise lions (above the fireplace in the photo below) .
