Terminals in four cities in Rio Grande do Sul are still operational

Salgado Filho International Airport, in Porto Alegre, will remain closed indefinitely, with all operations suspended. The information was confirmed this Monday (6) by the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear), through a note. “There is no forecast of recovery. For everyone’s safety the passenger terminal is closed.”




“Abear members have canceled flights with origin and/or destination in Porto Alegre and have relaxed the rescheduling and refund rules. Passengers must contact the airline to reschedule or refund tickets with origin and/or destination in the gaúcha capital “, completes the statement.

Also according to the association, the airports of the cities of Passo Fundo, Caxias do Sul, Pelotas and Santo Ângelo in Rio Grande do Sul are operational, but could be affected by the weather conditions recorded throughout the state. Rio Grande do Sul has been hit hard by storms in recent days.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) published a red level alert on Monday morning indicating great danger due to the intense rains that mainly affected the south-eastern region of Rio Grande do Sul. The alert is valid until 12 today Tuesday (7).

Precipitation could reach 100 millimeters (mm) per day and winds could reach 100 kilometers per hour (km/h), according to forecasts. Inmet also predicts hail, high risk of damage to buildings, electricity cuts, damage to plantations, falling trees, flooding and disruption to road traffic.

The municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul that could be most affected are: Santa Vitória do Palmar; Big River; Pedras Altas, Jaguarão, Herval, Chuí and Arroio Grande.
