Ibirapuera Park opens registration for the astronomy course

Naturally in São Paulo you encounter astronomical tourism, a modality that is gaining more and more followers

Eclipses, ring of fire and meteor shower are some of the astronomical phenomena expected in 2024, and along the way, astronomical tourism also moves destinations around the world. Cities are preparing to welcome scholars or those simply curious about what happens beyond Earth. Here in Brazil, the Hotel das Cataratas, in Foz do Iguaçu, has created a stargazing activity. In the United States, in the State of Utah, Bryce National Park is a very popular destination for astronomers and amateurs as it offers ideal observation conditions. Not to mention the incredible phenomenon of Northern Lights, in the Northern Hemisphere.

An interesting way to perceive the world differently is to look at the sky and one of the ways is study combined with free time. In São Paulo, the Parque Ibirapuera Municipal School of Astrophysics opens enrollment for the course Introduction to astronomy from May 20th to 23rd, from 7pm to 10pm. The first lesson will be held in the Ibirapuera Planetarium and the other three in the Auditorium of the School of Astrophysics, also in the park.

The course aims to offer a panoramic and introductory vision of astronomy, starting from the observation of the sky with the naked eye and clarifying how our ancestors revealed the first celestial mysteries. We will explore the basic concepts and techniques of astrophysics that help astronomers study and understand the universe around us. Stars, planets and galaxies up to the large structures of the Universe will also be studied. The subject will be divided into four classes.

Taught by astronomer Mirian Castejon Molina, the course has the following programmatic content:

– Observe the sky with the naked eye

– History and basic concepts of astronomy

– Observation of the sky with instruments

– Solar system

– Stars

– Interstellar medium

– Our galaxy

– Milky Way

– Galaxies in the Universe

– Large structures in the Universe

– The beginning of the Universe

– Life in the Universe
