Anac has suspended sales of flights to or from Porto Alegre
Passengers who need to reschedule purchased flights with final destination Rio Grande do Sul will not have to pay additional amounts to change the travel date. Furthermore, refunds or credits for flight cancellations with a changed final destination will be full, at no cost. The state is experiencing the worst climate tragedy in its history after heavy rains flooded nearly 90% of its cities.
The changes have been in force since 11 May, when the airlines were informed by the National Civil Aviation Authority (Anac) on the procedures to be observed. This week, new emergency airline flights into the state began operating.

Porto Alegre airport suspends flights indefinitely – Fraport/Disclosure
Last week, the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) asked ANAC to relax the rules for air transport of passengers in Rio Grande do Sul, considering the exceptional nature of the state’s airports. The Agency informed this Brazilian agency who analyzed the request and recognized that the modification of the transport contract should not entail an additional cost for passengers.
According to Anac there will be no cost to reschedule flights within one year of the original date. The possibility of reimbursement of the ticket price must also be offered to the passenger in cash and not only in credit for future use.
Airlines must endeavor, as far as possible, to transport passengers to the airport closest to the place of interest. The priority service is reserved for passengers with a ticket already issued.
ANAC also established that airlines identify and prioritize contact with passengers who have a pending return leg, with destination or origin in Rio Grande do Sul, so that they can preferentially arrange their reaccommodation. Airlines should also seek to identify urgent and relevant cases for transportation prioritisation.
The regulatory agency also decided to immediately suspend the sale of airline tickets for flights to and from Porto Alegre airport. The ban on ticket sales, which will be in force until further evaluation by the agency, covers all sales channels, including systems involving sales through third parties, such as travel agencies and other intermediaries who can sell tickets .
