The show with Cláudia Raia explores the life and work of one of the most important artists of modernism in Brazil
If you haven’t seen it yet, this is your last chance to see one of the most acclaimed shows of the year. The musical “Tarsila, the Brazilian”, on stage at the Santander Theater, in Sao Paulo, is in its final moments. The season ends May 26th!
With Cláudia Raia in the lead role, the production offers a journey through the life and work of Tarsila do Amaralone of the most emblematic figures of modern Brazilian art.
The musical pays homage to Brazilian art and culture
The story takes us to the year 1922, when Tarsila returns to Brazil from the Paris School of Art, meets modernists and begins a passionate love affair with Oswald de Andrade. This meeting leads to the formation of the famous Group of Five and marks the beginning of an era of creative fervor and artistic collaboration.
The plot follows a journey between St. Paul and Paris, exploring the famous Tarsila studio, frequented by big names on the art scene of the time, such as Pablo Picasso and Igor Stravinsky.
Tarsila’s life, however, is not only full of artistic glory. Faced with the crisis of 1929, she loses her fortune and discovers Oswald’s betrayal. Divorced and deprived of her assets, the artist leaves for Fly and begins a new phase in his paintings, portraying Brazilian workers and facing police suspicion of Getúlio Vargas for his “revolutionary” activities.
The exhibition takes us through the losses and rebirths of the artist, who finds solace in spirituality and renews his belief in art as a tool for transcendence and connection.
Ultimately, the musical joins the Modern Art Week Retrospective, more than a century later, in a celebration of Brazilian culture and the legacy of Tarsila do Amaral.
