The popular TikTok procedure helps relax and treat hair problems such as dandruff and excess sebum
What could be so special and satisfying about washing your hair? On a “head spa“, sounds like a lot. The term refers to a head spa, where the focus is on massages from the neck up.
The technique originated in Japan and is popular in other Asian countries, such as China and Korea. The technique consists of scalp massages which combined aromatherapy and a relaxing feel-good environment.
Lying on a stretcher, the person receives a spa treatment, the difference is that the head rests in a sink while water flows through the hair. Instead of massages and drainage on the body, she receives them on the face, neck and especially the scalp. The procedure has gone viral on TikTok and is slowly spreading throughout the Brazilian market.
Benefits of the head spa
For trichologist Marina Bringhenti, from Ecosmetics, the procedure is nothing more than a hair therapy that has existed for many years. In addition to cranial massages, hair therapy also aims to treat pathologies and dysfunctions, such as dandruff, excess sebum, hair loss, dermatitis and inflammation of the scalp.
According to Dr. Elisabetta Borgo, R&D (Research and Development) director of Ecosmetics, some equipment and manual techniques can be used in hair therapy, as well as products such as essential oils, vegetables and cosmeceuticals, depending on what will be treated.
“The therapist takes care of the health of the scalp and hair, treating the patient’s face and emotionsbecause the professional generally uses essential vegetable oils, which are natural medicines that heal the skin”, explains Bringhenti. “When the person inhales this oil, it acts on emotions, treats stress and anxiety”, he adds.
One of the benefits of the practice, in addition to relaxation and a feeling of well-being, is the attention to the scalp. “Most women only care about their hair, but don’t remember that their scalp needs care,” says the trichologist. According to the professional, stimulation in the region can also help hair growth.
