Feast of San Giustino: Discover the story of the philosopher who became a priest


Saint Justin, in his lifetime, was a philosopher who converted to the teachings of the Catholic Church and, thus, became one of the first priests

This Saturday (1st), the day of Saint Justin. Therefore, we have reported his story so that you can learn more about this Catholic figure.




From birth to training

Justin was born in the year 103, a Palestine, a time in which the Catholic religion was consolidating. Subsequently he studied in one of the best schools and graduated in philosophy, specializing in Plato. One day she decided to go and live alone. During that time he met a man who spoke to him about the Gospel and the life of Jesus.

One of the first priests

After suffering persecution against Christians, he decided to convert. In the year 130 he was baptized and became one of the first priests of the Catholic Church. Being very cultured, he began to evangelize. Justin was, therefore, a missionary philosopher.

Because he knew how to write, he left important books that are still present in catechesis and in the Catholic Church. He managed to convert many influential people and, therefore, earned many enemies over time, including philosophers Tryphon AND Growth.

The second ended up humiliated by Justin’s arguments and promised to take revenge. Having said this he reported it to the emperor Marcus Aurelius, which ended up taking him to trial. The end of the story? He ended up scourged and beheaded.
