Since the pandemic paralyzed the planet in 2020, there has never been so much talk about mental health.
And the world of cinema was no stranger to the issue.
The Disney series WandaVision (2021), which addresses topics such as post-traumatic trauma and the long After sun (2022) e The rejected (2023), on depression, among other topics covered, are just some of the most recent examples.
Currently, four national films have sought to normalize, in a frank, safe and honest way, important discussions about topics such as depression, anxiety and mental health.
Check out four suggestions for recent national films that have mental health as their main inspiration, such as Nobody gets out of here aliveby André Ristum, a feature film inspired by the book Brazilian Holocaustby Daniela Arbex, which recounts the genocide that occurred in the largest psychiatric hospital in Brazil, in Barbacena (MG), between 1903 and 1980.
“The topic has fascinated me from an early age. I think that the proximity to people suffering from some kind of pathology throughout my life and the deepening of my personal psychoanalysis have sparked a great interest in exploring this topic,” states Ristum, in a note sent to A Travel by fare.
