Whindersson took to X, formerly Twitter, to vent about the issues he’s faced with his mental health. The psychoanalyst comments on the case
Whindersson Nunes went on a long rant on his X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday evening (02/06). The comedian revealed a suicide attempt in which he says the gun failed. In the report he also states that he was a victim of abuse as a child.
“Don’t worry, guys. I’m fine, even though I always maintain my opinion. You say ‘I’m confused or out of my mind’, or that I should go to a psychiatrist. I go to one and he treats me very well, he’s a very good professional, he doesn’t I didn’t even cry talking to him, really great. Give me a vote of confidence, it will help me,” he said before revealing his attempt to take his own life.
Dealing with topics such as suicide can be a trigger for people dealing with psychiatric disorders. However, talking about the topic often encourages proper treatment of the problem.
“The more we talk about something unknown, like our suffering and our acoustics, the more chance we have of curing them. So, overall, having a voice like yours addressing the topic helps much more than it might encourage, because of the possibility of connecting with others”, said the psychoanalyst.
Intrusive thoughts
Whindersson said he attempted to take his own life after an intrusive thought when he saw a gun at a friend’s house. “I look at the gun on the table, just like those impulsive thoughts, you know, where people say they’re on a bridge and they’re afraid, on impulse, to throw their cell phone, you know? I took this gun, I went into the room, closed the door,” an excerpt from the report says.
The weapon, fortunately, failed. The comedian said he blocked the gun and removed the bullets from the magazine. Then he went to take a shower. From that point on, Whindersson began to reflect on what had happened and what could have happened differently.
When these intrusive thoughts begin to be more recurrent and turn into actions, the alarm signal already sounds very loud, Mariana points out.
“When the thoughts are continuous, the medical help is already acting and nothing improves, these are signs that something is heading towards a more dangerous path. The thoughts are just thoughts, but linked to an insistence and some planning of actions that can put a strain on your life or that of another person at risk, already means something to be seen urgently and with great attention”, says the psychoanalyst.
Assuming vulnerability
For the therapist, the first impact of Whindersson Nunes’ account is the realization that we are all human. Therefore, we have emotions and feelings. “Numbers, values, CVs, the accumulation of results will not determine who will or will not have mental health problems,” he says.
“My message to you who, like me, are a survivor. That after I stopped thinking about things here and started thinking about the other plan, it became easier to live life. Money doesn’t go, the house , the sneakers, nothing, much less the time you wasted and didn’t use your talent to help someone…” says another excerpt from Whindersson’s social media post.
Mariana underlines that the more we are aware that we are not omnipotent, that we have to manage everything, be strong at all times, the better our conduct will be in tragic situations. “The awareness that we are human and vulnerable gives us the ability to look for ways to deal with events based on each situation,” says the professional.
