Architect Cristiane Schiavoni presents shoe rack designs in the bedroom and entrance:
The shoe rack is nothing new in furniture. Archaeologists have found the first forms of shoe racks used by ancient civilizations: in Asian culture, China already made carved wooden pieces and, in Japan, they were made of bamboo. Following the contours of decades past, the furniture was designed to store clean shoes, as the space under the bed was no longer sufficient, and so gained intelligent joinery solutions and wardrobe spaces.
“For many people, shoes are much more than just protection for the feet, but rather a piece that complements and helps convey the message to be conveyed through the look. Not to mention that it is a collector’s piece”, evaluates the architect Cristiana Schiavonimanager of his office.
And in this evolution, Brazilians have recently incorporated behavior similar to Asian culture, leaving their shoes dirty room or right at the entrance to the house. With fears faced during the pandemic, the cure is the same: do not introduce dirt and bacteria into the house.
“This custom is rooted among the Japanese and Koreans and many of us have already noticed it with drama fever. When the characters arrive home, they quickly take off their shoes and put on slippers,” explains the professional. “And to avoid leaving a mess downstairs at the entrance to the property, they place them in the shoe rack installed on site,” he adds.

Shoe racks in the rooms:
1. On the side of the bed

According to Cristiane, a corner can become the answer to the shoe rack. In this double bedroom he used the side of the bed to create a shoe rack only 29cm wide – considering the finished piece. Inside the The shelves can be straight or angled to accommodate larger shoes. “I like to break the mold and I believe that it is not necessary to produce a 60 cm piece of furniture, as happens inside furniture. And with this measurement everything was perfectly adjusted”, he decides.
2. In a corner of the closet

In the couple’s individual closet, the bedroom ends allowed the architect to also offer a shoe rack for each person. The accesses are discreet and, on one side, the husband’s door was covered with a mirror and opened with a handle. On the other, the carpentry roofing camouflages the activation of the touch closure.

“I like this idea of leaving your shoes away from your clothes, because depending on the conditions, it is possible that interference caused by odors may occur,” says Cristiane.
3. Composition of the TV panel

In both projects, architect Cristiane Schiavoni explored the bedroom wall where she also inserted the Television panel. In the internal distribution, the inclination of the shelves contributes to the perfect fit of all shoes.

Shoe racks at the entrance:

The placement of shoe racks at the entrance to the property may also vary. “I made furniture both ways entrance, as well as the elevator area“, recalls the architect.
In the renovation project of this apartment, the side of this carpentry not only serves the entrance, but also accompanies the structure of a home office designed by the professional. He created a furniture with shelves for decorative items and, at the back, small overhead lockers house shoes and bags. “To make this movement more comfortable, the pouf is easily accessible in the existing space relative to the floor,” explains the architect.
In this apartment the shoe rack is located immediately after exiting the elevator. To this end, the architect created a kind of “hanging box” with a bench next to it.
Pay attention to the measurements indicated by the architect

In general, sneakers, ballet flats and flip flops are ideally placed on shelves with 10cm highwhile pairs of sneakers, dress shoes and heels find a better fit in a minimum space of 15 cm. As for boots, the ideal recommendation is a pair of from 35 to 45 cm to receive the average shoe height. As for the depth, 40 centimetres is the reference measurement.
“But I always like to point out that the size varies depending on the resident’s collection,” he analyzes. Finally, to optimize space in compact environments, the architect recommends the use of shoe racks, as these furnishing elements add a sophisticated and modern touch.
