Undoubtedly there are different symptoms both before and during menopause, right? The difference is that physical exercise appears as an indispensable tool, i.e. the study available in The Journal of the Menopause Society indicates pilates, yoga and tai chi in menopause.




The effects of pilates, yoga and tai chi on menopause

They used four electronic databases of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Web of Science. All systematically analyzed from the beginning until July 2023.

The research relied on randomized controlled trials to examine the impact of mind-body exercise interventions on perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. A total of 11 randomized controlled trials including 1,005 participants were included in the analysis.

A common problem in women is the acceleration of bone resorption during this period, which can cause osteoporosis, and the beneficial effects of exercise are due to stress on skeletal muscle, which regulates bone mass.

The study then highlighted that the practice of yoga increases the levels of melatonin, an essential hormone in the regulation of sleep, and the brain concentrations of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), an inhibitory neurotransmitter for improving sleep. Subsequently, it was mentioned that mind-body exercise increases concentration and improves mood while modulating stress in emotional disorders.

“The meta-analysis indicated that mind-body exercise significantly improved bone mineral density in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women compared to control groups. Additionally, they observed significant improvements in sleep quality, reduction in anxiety and “depressed mood. The inconveniences for women during this period are numerous and range from difficulty falling asleep to less interest in sexual activity.
