Studies show how the hormonal and physiological regulation promoted by bodybuilding is able to combat this condition
Adopting a healthy lifestyle is one of the ways to combat sleep problems. Therefore it is possible to bet training to treat insomniaaccording to experts and scientific research.
A study published by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) revealed that 72% of Brazilians suffer from sleep-related disorders, which is worrying, since sleeping badly means being closer to several diseases such as hypertension and psychiatric problems. Thus, in search of solutions to what they classify as a “sleep pandemic”, experts have discovered that physical exercise is a great ally in changing the situation.
Benefits of training to cure insomnia
Research such as that conducted by the British University of Nottingham Trent highlights the role of physical exercise in reducing these comorbidities through its hormonal action, in particular in the production of endorphins, the “feel-good hormone”, and in the nocturnal release of melatonin, key to the regulation of the “body’s internal clock”, as main reasons for its effectiveness in improving sleep quality.
In March 2024, however, Brazilian researcher Paolo Cunha, a postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto Israelita de Ensino e Pesquisa Albert Einstein, added a new layer to the discussion by emphasizing that the benefits of exercise, particularly bodybuilding, do not they are limited to hormone levels. release that occurs during and/or immediately after training, but also for the better physiological regulation brought about by the strength and muscle mass component.
According to the Smart Fit trainer Luca Ribeiro, these findings are no longer limited to the academic universe and have resulted in an increased demand for gyms among the general population as a non-pharmacological treatment to improve insomnia. To maximize the concrete effects of the practice, however, the expert underlines that an analysis of each student’s individuality is essential.
“It is necessary to identify, for example, what is the best time or the most suitable period to carry out the exercises, since people respond differently to exercise”, underlines the professional.
“For some, the practice causes lethargy and deep relaxation, while for others the stimulus is activation. In other words, the first group should practice in the evening, while for the second the indication is to practice in the morning,” he adds.
That said, Ribeiro suggests a workout for those who want to try exercise to sleep better. Watch it in the video below:
