Find out which aesthetic procedures men perform the most

More and more men are undergoing aesthetic procedures to improve their features and delay aging.

Brazil is the second country in the world with the highest number of aesthetic restorative procedures, behind only the United States. However, those who think that the demand for these operations is reserved only for women are wrong. This is because the concern for beauty is increasingly common among men.

Among the most common goals of this research are rejuvenation and aging management, emphasizes Juliana Jardim, a dental surgeon specializing in orthodontics and facial harmonization.

“Many men want to maintain a youthful and vigorous appearance, especially as they age. In addition, increasing self-esteem and confidence through a more harmonious appearance is a common reason,” he says.

Most sought after procedures by men

Data from the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) shows the five most popular plastic surgery procedures among men: liposuction, blepharoplasty, gynecomastia, rhinoplasty, and fat grafting.

According to plastic surgeon Fernando Amato, other aesthetic interventions also attract the attention of the male public, such as:

  • Abdominoplasty: removes excess skin and fat and strengthens the abdominal muscles. It is an option to achieve a more toned and defined abdomen, leaving you with a “six pack” appearance. Abdominoplasty is indicated, especially after significant weight loss or abdominal sagging;
  • Cervicoplasty/neck lift: is a procedure that improves the appearance of the male neck by removing excess skin and fat. In addition to repositioning muscle tissue, this procedure can eliminate sagging and wrinkles;
  • Facelift or Rhytidoplasty: surgical procedure that aims to combat the visible signs of aging on the face and neck. By removing excess skin, repositioning facial tissue, and, if necessary, using fillers, this procedure gives a younger appearance;
  • Eyebrow lift: This procedure lifts sagging eyebrows, eliminating the tired, aged look of the forehead and eyes;
  • Otoplasty: corrects prominent or disproportionate ears. By reshaping the cartilage, the ears are repositioned closer to the head, giving the male face a more balanced and harmonious appearance.

In search of the “perfect” jawline.

The contours of the jawline and chin have become especially important for men, as they are attributes that denote strength and virility, contributing to male attractiveness and confidence. In this context, facial aesthetic procedures targeting the lower third of the face have gained importance as a way to achieve these aesthetic goals.

According to Sandra Figueiredo, a specialist in orofacial harmonization, the use of hyaluronic acid-based fillers with specific characteristics for this region, such as “high cross-linking,” has proven effective in providing definition and projection to the jawline and chin. In addition, dermostentation threads can promote greater definition of the jawline, contributing to a more defined contour.

When sagging is found in the “double chin” region or in lateral pockets of fat, personalized treatments should be indicated depending on the cause, explains Sandra.

While mechanical or enzymatic liposuction may be indicated to remove excess fat, procedures such as the use of ultrasound and endolift, combined with biostimulators, can combat sagging skin on the face and neck.

“Highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid is the preferred substance for mandibular filling,” says the specialist. In addition, the use of a specific gel is able to imitate the bone tissue of the jaw and chin. This provides adequate projection and contouring and extremely natural results.

Concern about the results

“An important point to highlight is that men generally have a great concern in achieving natural results. They want to improve their appearance without looking like they have undergone cosmetic surgery, maintaining the naturalness and authenticity of their image,” Juliana emphasizes.

To ensure that the procedures do not have artificial results, it is therefore essential to look for a professional with good qualifications and experience in facial harmonization. This is because he will first perform a Request in detail to understand the patient’s expectations and then develop a treatment plan that respects the individual characteristics of each person.

Is there an age limit for performing these procedures?

Juliana also emphasizes that there is no fixed age limit for aesthetic procedures. However, each case requires an individual assessment. It is essential to perform a complete assessment, especially in older patients, to identify any risks and contraindications.

“Procedures can be adapted to ensure safety and effectiveness. That is, considering factors such as general health, skin type and patient expectations. Examples such as the actor Stênio Garcia, 91, and the guitarist Ximbinha, 50, demonstrate that procedures can be performed naturally in different age groups, as long as due care is taken,” he says.
