Surrounded by fruit trees, lots of foliage and flowers, the garden is the result of the dedication of the whole family.
The guava, the lemon, the acerola, the mulberry, the hibiscus and the rose were little more than seedlings in the world courtyard when the house in San Paolo was purchased by Luana and the programmer Giovanni Bassi.
“I had our children and my brother help me tidy up the garden for our wedding party, which included planting a climbing rose bush, painting the floor grey and the walls white and giving everything a rustic, Provençal touch,” says the graphic designer and interior designer, who still runs an online shop.
Since moving in, she has been filling out the outdoor space with species she finds at good prices. “I wanted to have everything here, but I discovered that some plants don’t work: to be successful, they have to be resistant to the pee of our three cats,” she says.
Furniture that stands out
Different types of scraps gave rise to the iron table that, when Luana found it at the metallurgy, was very short. “We asked for its legs to be lengthened using part of an old gate that we were also buying,” recalls the tenant, who painted the furniture in turquoise blue to contrast with the dark green of the foliage. The entire execution of the table with tempered glass top was made by Soldameca and the red chairs that accompany it are of the Talk model, by Tok&Stok.

The walls were coated with Coral Sun & Rain Protection Painting Waterproofing paint, which forms a rubberized film on the surface.
Everything is seen up close
During the rainy season, Luana lets nature water the garden, and then pays attention to pruning. “In the dry season, I water with a hose once or twice a week, trying to give each species all the water they need,” she says.

Two old wooden ladders have been resurrected as accessories. One of them guides a Pandora screw and the other (pictured above) is used for seedling development and pot cultivation. “Violets grow very well there. After flowering I take them to the bathroom,” says the hostess.
A bouquet of white orchids (pictured above) draws attention to the metal arch leading to the rose garden, which was flowerless on the day of the photo. The shameless maria spreads across the area, opening its tiny white petals.

Where the cladding was peeling off, Luana preferred to expose the bricks, adding color and texture to the whole.

The few leaves in the garden grew spontaneously, but all the flowering species were planted. Morning glory, pansy and cloves didn’t work, but the others are beautiful! The girl usually posts the best moments of her garden (and her cats) on her Instagram profile (@luanahoje).

The hammock purchased during the trip is in the shade of the apple tree. Luana prunes these and other species monthly in the summer, leaving them to rest in the winter, when according to her not even the grass grows well.
“Drastic pruning is done four times a year, but only during warm, humid periods and, preferably, during the waning moon. Since I always want to cut and put a flower in the house, I do small monthly prunings to keep everything harmonious.”
