What to Watch This Weekend: 10 Best Miniseries of 2024

We have compiled for you the best miniseries of 2024.

Have you ever given up on watching a series simply because it’s too long? It happens to the best of us: adult life leaves little time for ten- or even five-season shows. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the best miniseries of 2024: you can easily binge one of these gems in a weekend.

Weekend Mini-Series: Top 10 Viewer Ratings

  • Release year: 2024
  • Number of episodes: 8
  • Kinopoisk rating: 8.0
  • IMDb Rating: 8.2

This series tops our weekend miniseries list for a reason: Some film critics consider Ripley to be one of the best book adaptations in cinematic history. This time, Patricia Highsmith’s novel has gone truly dark: if you like thrillers, you’ll definitely appreciate the mood and tone of the film.

Hitchcock was the first person who came to mind when watching Ripley. Not only because the master has already adapted Patricia Highsmith’s books in the form of the magnificent “Strangers on a Train”, but also because the intrigue, the play of shadows, a gradual increase in tension – all this is in the series and all this is quite in the style of the “father of the thriller”

Technically, Shogun shouldn’t have made our 2024 miniseries rankings. It was only meant to be a one-season series (FX ordered 10 episodes), but the show received such good reviews that Shogun was renewed for two more seasons. However, you can only watch the first one — it seems pretty complete and tells the story of English navigator John Blackthorne, who ends up in Japan at the height of the civil wars and makes a dizzying career there.

“Shogun” is not only an exciting drama, but also an educational project that gives the viewer the opportunity to better understand Japanese culture and history. It skillfully balances between entertaining and educational content, making it interesting for a wide audience. For those interested in Japanese history, samurai culture, and intriguing plots, this series is a must-watch.

A day

  • Release year: 2024
  • Number of episodes: 14
  • Kinopoisk rating: 7.7
  • IMDb Rating: 8.1

There’s also a melodrama in our 2024 miniseries picks: Never has a movie remake gotten as much attention as “One Day”! Based on the same book as the 2011 romantic comedy of the same name starring Anne Hathaway, the series follows the decades-long love affair between Em and Dex, who meet on the same day every year.

Having started watching the series blindly, I didn’t expect to be so amazed. The story is beautiful and touching, the acting is breathtaking. I experienced almost every emotion possible.

The “Ted” franchise is back, but this time not on the big screen, but on streaming services and in the form of a weekend miniseries. The series follows the early lives of a sentient teddy bear named Ted, 16-year-old John Bennett, and his family. If you liked the feature film, then this series will not leave you indifferent.

I really enjoyed the show and I think it has the potential for at least three more seasons – I hope we get them. We all need more shows like this where it’s all about the humor.

This new 2024 miniseries is special: Fawn is one of Netflix’s most talked about premieres. This story of stalking, codependency, psychological and sexual abuse is based on true events and tells the complex relationship between bartender and aspiring comedian Donnie Dunn and the bar owner Martha Scott who stalks him.

This is definitely one of the most difficult series I have ever watched. It is not a traditional story of rapist and victim: we are shown that in reality everything is much more complex and painful.

Christophe Balenciaga

The title speaks for itself: this spectacular six-part film tells the story of the iconic fashion designer, who has been creating clothes since he was 12 years old. If you like carefully thought-out shots, gorgeous interiors, and beautiful images, be sure to pay attention to this show!

A wonderful take on the story of one of the greatest haute couture designers of all time. This is a great insight into Cristobal’s life. Everyone involved in the project did a great job.

Our ranking of mini-series 2024 is not without science fiction: the film adaptation of the trilogy “Remembrance of the Past of the Earth” by the Chinese writer Liu Cixin begins with several mysteries at once. A wave of suicides of talented physicists sweeps the world, the surviving scientists begin to see a countdown, and some of them receive packages containing a virtual reality headset 100 years superior to modern technology and an invitation to play the game “The Three -Body Problem.

I didn’t know anything about Liu Cixin’s original book, but I devoured the series, watching episodes one after the other. Unforgettable experience!

The situation is complicated by the fact that “John” and “Jane” begin to feel a sincere sympathy for each other.

In New York in the 1980s, a nine-year-old boy, Edgar, goes missing. His grieving father Vincent, a puppeteer and creator of a popular children’s television show, finds his son’s drawings and the monster depicted in them, named Eric, becomes the man’s imaginary friend. Every day, Vincent’s behavior becomes more strange and dangerous and begins to frighten not only his loved ones, but also the detectives who are looking for the boy.

A truly amazing series, it’s in my top 5 favorites and I know a lot about cinema. The acting was phenomenal, the storyline was beyond words, Benedict Cumberbatch exceeded all expectations. I watched all the episodes in one day – I just couldn’t stop.

This new 2024 miniseries tells the story of drug lord Griselda Blanco, the most famous woman in the history of the drug trade. The only thing she wants is to become a “godmother”, and we can only watch what price the main character will have to pay for it.

I never thought Sofia Vergara could play such a serious role, but it’s impossible to take your eyes off her. Simply awesome! She should get an Oscar for this series!
