What it is and how to do it: discover the premium plus bathroom trend

The “premium plus bath” is another self-care trend that’s gone viral on social media. Find out what the experts recommend

The “premium plus bath” is a trend that has recently gone viral on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. The practice involves a longer bath, focused exclusively on self-care.

According to Emilia Brito, marketing director of Riô SkinLab, the “premium plus bath” receives this upgrade when it includes products that, in addition to promoting an ultra-pleasant sensorial experience, naturally balance and restore the skin’s microbiome, such as biomimetic formulas, which replicate compounds naturally produced by the body to promote skin care.

“These are science-based products and anti-dryness formulas that guarantee dermocosmetic safety,” she says.

Take care of a premium and efficient bathroom

According to dermatologist Juliana Piquet, member of the SBD (Brazilian Society of Dermatology), regardless of the type of bath, the routine must be created according to each person’s skin type.

“Care must be taken not to compromise the skin barrier, as prolonged exposure to water and hygiene products can remove natural lipids from the skin, increasing transepidermal water loss and making the skin more susceptible to irritation and infection,” she says.

A doctor’s tip is to favor highly emollient shower gels. “After showering, gently dry your skin and immediately apply a moisturizing cream or lotion,” explains Juliana. She also emphasizes the need to prioritize warm water, rather than hot water, because of dry skin.

The specialist also emphasizes that using a wide variety of products during a “premium plus bath” is not necessary to maintain healthy skin. “The essential thing is to use a soap that is suitable for your skin type, a good moisturizer immediately after the shower and, when necessary, a gentle exfoliant,” he explains.

She says using too much product can compromise the skin barrier, causing dryness and irritation. “The key is to choose quality products that are compatible with your skin type and use them in moderation,” she emphasizes.

Pay attention to trends

“Premium plus bath” is one of the many trends that periodically go viral on social media. However, it is important to note that following trends and using products recommended on the internet without knowing your skin type can lead to a variety of problems, such as irritation, allergies and exacerbation of pre-existing conditions, such as acne or dermatitis.

“Everyone’s skin is unique and what works for one person may not be right for another. Therefore, it is always recommended to consult a dermatologist for a personalized assessment and specific guidance,” says Juliana.

Tips to keep your skin healthy, beautiful and clean

The dermatologist gives some advice in addition to the premium plus bath, to tone the skin and keep it healthy and protected. Watch:

  • Proper hygiene: wash your face with a soap specific to your skin type twice a day. In the bathroom, on the body, use gentle soaps or bath oils;
  • Hydration: Use an adequate moisturizer after showering to keep the skin barrier intact;
  • Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days, to prevent damage caused by UV rays;
  • Balanced diet: Maintain a diet rich in vitamins, antioxidants and proteins that contribute to healthy skin;
  • Avoid very hot baths: they can dry the skin. Therefore, prefer warm water.

In addition to all the precautions mentioned, it is important to remember that the integrity of the skin barrier is essential for the overall health of the skin. This is because this barrier protects against external aggressions and helps maintain hydration, adds the specialist.

“Therefore, avoid aggressive products and frequent exfoliation, which can compromise this barrier. Furthermore, when possible, seek professional guidance to choose the products and treatments best suited to your specific needs,” she concludes.
