when to do Trataka

The activity can be used in your company, as a work exercise before starting the work itself. Another alternative is to practice with your children, creating a playful moment that will also favor concentration on studies.

The exercises of Trataka it can be done before a meditation, as a small form of preparation for focusing the mind and breath. Tip: do an energy purification meditation here.

They can also be done before study time or right after to relax your eyes after a lot of exertion.

Trataka: step by step

To prepare the eyes, it is important to start and finish the technique by doing an exercise called Palming: Rub your hands to warm them and place them in front of your eyes.

The palm of the hand is above the eyes and the fingers above the forehead. The heat released relaxes the eye region. Do this for a few seconds. To be comfortable and not to strain your arms, place them on a table.

For the proposed sequence of exercises, it is important to sit comfortably and with a straight spine. Mentally create an imaginary line that pulls you up.

If you do this with children, ask them to picture themselves as a king, queen or superhero, with a firm and confident posture.

Come on:

  • First blink a few times to lubricate your eyes, as you won’t be able to blink during activities.
  • You can do this sitting in a chair or on the floor on a mat.
  • Start with a few repetitions and gradually increase. What you do on one side, repeat on the other with the other hand.

  • For the next exercise, you can use a candle or an object that is in the direct line of the eye. Place it on a surface.
  • Fix your gaze for a minute or two without blinking. Then blink several times to relax your gaze. Close your eyes and see if your mind has a fixed image of the object you were viewing right now.
  • If using a candle, for best effect, keep the dark environment and the object at a comfortable distance. The width of an arm, for example.
  • To conclude the practice, massage the eyebrow to relax the face or repeat the Palming.

Remember to repeat a few times, from 5 to 6, always on both sides. In between exercises, close your eyes to relax and move on to the next.

Blinking several times helps lubricate the eyes, which is also important between exercises.
