It is common to believe that oracle and tarot are the same thing, but they are not! It is true that every tarot is an oracle, but it is only one of the existing types of oracles. So, to clear up this doubt, let’s find out more about each of them and understand the differences between oracle and tarot.
story of the oracle
Oracle comes from the Latin “Oraculum”, it refers to the answer given by a deity through the art of divination. It can also be compared to the will of God’s word, “prophecy” or even “revelation”.
A term widely used in ancient Greece, the Oracle of Delphi or Oracle of Apollo is one of the oldest and most important temples in history, built in the 7th century BC And it was there that thousands of people searched for answers about their future.
Located in the city of Delphi, it hosted priests and priestesses who not only gave guidance on personal matters in each one’s life, but also on politics and economics: many emperors used the revelations of the Oracle of Delphi to conduct their travels and socio-political relationships.
According to mythological accounts, one of the myths has it that the god Apollo, in a duel with a female dragon, killed her in a cave under Delphi.
What completes this myth is that a shepherd noticed that the animals were dying when they crossed a mountain. He noticed that the gases were coming out of the place and decided to figure out what it was. Immediately upon coming into contact with the gas, he convulsed and began to speak incongruously, which were later understood as words of the gods.
Under this mountain was the female dragon and her decomposition emitted hallucinogenic gases, which made people go into a trance and could predict the future. Then a large temple was erected: the Oracle of Delphi destined for the god Apollo, with the female as its main representation; the priestess Pythonisa, chosen from among the peasants. She went down to an underground part of the temple and, inhaling the vapors, she returned, joining the priests, who had the task of decoding the messages received.
types of oracle
There are different types of oracles and the most popular are: Tarot, Gypsy Deck, Palmistry (hand reading), Búzios, I Ching (coins), Entity consultation, Cafeomancy, Runes, Opele Ifá, among other methods.
But then the Tarot is an oracle? Yup! Each astral communication tool is an oracle, one of these is the tarot, consisting of 78 cards with images and symbols, divided into 22 major arcana and 56 minor arcana.
In his structure he directs the paths, that is, he talks about tendencies and possibilities – basically all oracles are connections with the unconscious, so he respects the free will of the consultant, who decides whether or not to follow his advice according to your ideals. Of course, as we seek oracular guidance, we should try to follow counsel in addressing certain problems.
In a very particular way, the images presented in the cards allow us to reflect on aspects of ourselves that we do not perceive clearly, shedding light on the shadow of issues that we did not see so clearly before.
Tarot cards are one of the existing oracles, an instrument that acts directly on the collective unconscious, speaking of situations and perspectives of the ego of each individual.
There are different types of oracles and tarot cards: choose the best way to direct your journey, be happy and have sweetness and lightness in life.
